  EARLIER THIS WEEK, THE EAST PENN SCHOOL BOARD VOTED 8-1 TO OK A NEW FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT WITH DISTRICT TEACHERS.  IT'S A DEAL THAT WILL GIVE THOSE TEACHERS A 2.5 PERCENT RAISE IN EACH YEAR OF THE CONTRACT.  THE DISTRICT EXPECTS TO SEE SAVINGS IN THE CONTRACT BECAUSE TEACHERS IN TRADITIONAL MEDICAL PLANS ARE BEING FORCED TO SWITCH TO A PREFERRED PROVIDER PLAN.  THE CONTRACT TAKES EFFECT JULY 1 OF NEXT YEAR.


  ARTSQUEST BEGINS THREE WEEKENDS OF ROBIN WILLIAMS MOVIES SATURDAY WITH A SCREENING OF "DEAD POETS SOCIETY".  "GOOD WILL HUNTING" WILL BE SHOWN SUNDAY AT THE FRANK BANKO ALEHOUSE CINEMAS.  NEXT WEEKEND "HOOK" AND "GOOD MORNING VIETNAM" WILL BE SHOWN AND ON AUGUST 30 "JUMANJI" WILL BE ON THE SCREEN.  A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS WILL SUPPORT THE LOCAL CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN FOUNDATION FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION.


  THE MEGA MILLIONS LOTTERY JACKPOT IS GROWING AND THAT COULD BE BIG NEWS FOR LOTTERY PLAYERS IN PENNSYLVANIA.  THE ESTIMATED JACKPOT FOR FRIDAY'S DRAWING IS $144 MILLION WITH A CASH OPTION OF $84 MILLION.


  EVENTHOUGH THERE AREN'T ANY KNOWN CASES OF PETS BEING TATTOOED OR PIERCED IN NEW JERSEY, THREE STATE LAWMAKERS ARE PUSHING A BILL THAT WOULD BAN BOTH OF THOSE PRACTICES.  ONE OF THOSE LAWMAKERS, CARMELO GARCIA, SAYS THE BILL WOULD PROTECT PETS FROM "NEEDLESS MUTILATION."  THE BILL WOULD EXEMPT FARM ANIMALS THAT ARE OFTEN BRANDED OR TAGGING FOR IDENTIFICATION REASONS.
