  A MAN ALREADY CHARGED WITH A DECEMBER 2012 KILLING IS NOW CHARGED WITH PLOTTING TO KILL WITNESSES TO THE MURDER.  RENE FIGUEROA IS ACCUSED OF KILLING YOLANDA MORALES OUTSIDE THE PUERTO RICAN BENEFICIAL SOCIETY IN BETHLEHEM AND NOW HE AND HIS WIFE ARE ACCUSED TO PLOTTING TO PAY A FELLOW INMATE $50,000 TO KILL THREE WITNESSES TO MORALES' DEATH.  TODAY'S MORNING CALL REPORTS FIGUEROA AND HIS WIFE, SONIA PANELL TRIED TO HIRE A HIT MAN ALMOST A YEAR-AND-A-HALF AGO, BUT NO CHARGES WERE FILED UNTIL INVESTIGATORS COMPLETED THEIR PROBE.


  20 ANIMALS ARE OK AFTER THEY WERE RESCUED FROM A BURNING BUILDING ON THE EAST SIDE OF ALLENTOWN THURSDAY MORNING.  A FIRE BROKE OUT ON NORTH KIOWA STREET WITH NINE GERMAN SHEPPARD PUPPIES, EIGHT OLDER GERMAN SHEPPARDS, TWO CATS AND A RABBIT INSIDE.  ALL WERE RESCUED WITH NONE OF THE ANIMALS SUFFERING SERIOUS INJURY.  IT'S NOT YET KNOWN HOW THE FIRE BEGAN.  THE HOME IS OWNED BY A FAMILY THAT BREEDS GERMAN SHEPPARDS, WITH SOME OF THEM TRAINED FOR SEARCH-AND-RESCUE TEAMS.


  A FIRE LAST WEEK THAT KILLED 61 CATS AND TWO DOGS IN SCHNECKSVILLE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.  THE FIRE HAPPENED JULY 15 IN A SECOND-FLOOR APARTMENT IN A THREE-STORY BUILDING AT ROUTE 309 AND GAME PRESERVE ROAD.  INVESTIGATORS SAY THE OCCUPANTS OF THAT APARTMENT TOOK IN ABANDONED CATS WITH THE PLAN TO GIVE THEM OTHER FAMILIES.  THE BUILDING'S OWNER FACES FINED FOR VIOLATING NORTH WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP ORDINANCES, WHICH PROHIBIT HAVING MORE THAN SIX CATS AND DOGS IN ANY HOME.


  A BERKS COUNTY MAN IS ARRESTED FOR THE DEATH OF A BERKS COUNTY CEO.  56-YEAR-OLD MARK MILLER WAS ALLEGEDLY UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS WHEN HE HIT AND KILLED EAST PENN MANUFACTURING CEO SALLY MIKSIEWICZ LAST MONTH.  "THE RESULTS OF THE EXAMINATION OF THIS INDIVIDUAL REVEAL THAT HE WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AND MARIJUANA," THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY SAYS.  ADAMS SAYS MILLER WAS DRIVING MORE THAN TWICE THE 25 MILES PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS TRUCK AND HIT MIKSIEWICZ AS SHE WAS JOGGING IN HER NEIGHBORHOOD.  MILLER IS IN BERKS COUNTY PRISON UNDER $500,000 BAIL.


  AN EMMAUS MAN ADMITS TO KILLING A 70-YEAR-OLD NEIGHBOR LAST AUGUST 30.  23-YEAR-OLD ALEXANDER ROSCIOLI KILLED JOHN SWEENEY DURING AN ARGUMENT OUTSIDE THE BROOM STREET APARTMENT BUILDING WHERE THEY BOTH LIVED.  ROSCIOLI WILL PROBABLY ONLY GET AT THE MOST A YEAR IN JAIL BECAUSE PROSECUTORS SAY HE DIDN'T INTEND TO KILL SWEENEY, WHO APPARENTLY ATTACKED ROSCIOLI WITH A PLASTIC HOCKEY STICK AND HAD A TASER ON HIM DURING THE FIGHT AND HAD THREATENED TO KILL ROSCIOLI IN THE PAST.  ROSICIOLI ADMITS TO PUNCHING SWEENEY SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE FIGHT.  HE'LL BE SENTENCED NEXT MONTH.


  A SHOOTER OPENED FIRE IN A PENNSYLVANIA PSYCHIATRIC OFFICE THURSDAY.  "WE HAVE ONE DEAD, WHO IS AN EMPLOYEE.  WE ALSO HAVE A DOCTOR WHO HAS A GRAZE WOUND," SAYS DELAWARE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY JACK WHELAN.  HE SAYS THE MAN WALKED INTO THE DARBY OFFICE, WHERE HE WAS APPARENTLY A PATIENT, AND KILLED A FEMALE CASEWORKER AND THEN SHOT A DOCTOR.  THAT DOCTOR WAS ARMED AND SHOT BACK, CRITICALLY INJURING THE MAN.  THE DOCTOR WAS GRAZED IN THE HEAD AND WILL BE OK.  THE KILLER IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION.


  ACCORDING TO NEW NUMBERS, THE STATE LOTTERY PAID OUT ALMOST $2.4 BILLION IN PRIZES LAST FISCAL YEAR, WHICH ENDED JUNE 30TH.  THE LOTTERY SAYS IT'S TICKET SALES SOARED TO AN ALL-TIME RECORD OF $2.8 BILLION, WHICH AFTER EXPENSES COMES OUT TO A NET REVENUE OF ABOUT $1 BILLION FOR SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMS.  ABOUT TWO-THIRDS OF THOSE SALES CAME FROM INSTANT SCRATCH-OFF GAMES.  2013-2014 MARKS THE FOURTH STRAIGHT YEAR THE LOTTERY SET A NEW RECORD FOR THE NUMBER OF TICKETS SOLD.


  A NEW DETOUR IS CAUSING PROBLEMS FOR DRIVERS, JUST A DAY AFTER IT WAS POSTED.  A DETOUR WAS POSTED ON ROUTE 611 IN THE POCONOS AND POLICE SAY THEY'VE SEEN MULTIPLE DRIVERS NARROWLY MISS ACCIDENTS BECAUSE THEY'RE TRYING TO TURN ONTO THE CLOSED BRIDGE.  DRIVERS ARE SUPPOSED TO USE BARTONSVILLE AVENUE FOR THE DETOUR.  THE DETOUR IS EXPECTED TO LAST UNTIL SEPTEMBER.


  THANKSGIVING DAY JUST WON'T FEEL THE SAME FOR STUDENTS AND ALUMNI OF TWO POCONOS DISTRICTS.  STROUDSBURG AND EAST STROUDSBURG SOUTH HAVE DECIDED TO CANCEL THEIR ANNUAL THANKSGIVING MORNING FOOTBALL GAME BEGINNING THIS FALL.  THE GAME HAS BEEN PLAYED ALMOST EVERY THANKSGIVING SINCE THE 1940S BUT EACH SCHOOL DECIDED TO DISCONTINUE THE TRADITION BECAUSE THE GAME FALLS AFTER THE REGULAR SEASON AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLAYOFFS AND COACHES SAY PLAYERS ARE PUT AT RISK FOR WHAT AMOUNTS TO AN EXHIBITION GAME.  THE TWO SCHOOLS WILL STILL PLAY EACH OTHER, BUT IT WILL FALL IN THE MIDST OF THE REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE.


  A MAN CONVICTED OF KILLING A YORK COUNTY TEENAGER 21 YEARS AGO IS SCHEDULED, AGAIN, TO DIE BY LETHAL INJECTION.  GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT SIGNED AN EXECUTION WARRANT THURSDAY FOR HUBERT MICHAEL JR. IN CONNECTION TO THE MURDER OF 16-YEAR-OLD TRISTA ENG IN 1993.  THE WARRANT IS THE FOURTH SIGNED FOR MICHAEL.  GOVERNOR RIDGE, GOVERNOR RENDELL AND GOVERNOR CORBETT ALL SIGNED WARRANTS PREVSIOUSLY, BUT ALL THREE WERE STAYED DURING APPEALS THAT WERE EVENTUALLY DENIED.  ENG ACCEPTED A RIDE TO WORK FROM MICHAEL, BUT INSTEAD HE TOOK HER TO STATE GAME LANDS AND SHOT HER THREE TIMES AND THEN HID HER BODY IN THE WOODS.


  PHILADELPHIA CITY COUNCILMAN JAMES KENNEY IS PROMOTING HIS MARIJUANA ARREST HOTLINE.  KENNEY IS PUSHING MAYOR MICHAEL NUTTER TO SIGN A BILL TO LOWER THE PENALTY FOR HAVING A SMALL AMOUNT OF POT TO A $25 FINE AND NO ARREST.  HIS HOTLINE IS ASKING CALLERS TO GIVE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW AN ARREST FOR A SMALL AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA HAS HURT THEIR CHANCES FOR EMPLOYMENT OR SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES.  KENNEY SAYS HE WANTS THE MAYOR "TO SEE WHAT HE'S ALLOWING TO HAPPEN."
