  AN OVERNIGHT FIRE IN SCHUYLKILL COUNTY HAS LEFT SIX PEOPLE DEAD.  THE FIRE BEGAN JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT AT A HOME ON PIERCE STREET IN POTTSVILLE AND WHEN FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED, THE HOME WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES.  IT'S BELIEVED TWO ADULTS AND FOUR CHILDREN WERE KILLED IN THE FIRE.  THEIR NAMES HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED.  THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

  IF YOU SPENT SOME TIME PLANTING FLOWERS OVER THE WEEKEND, ACCU-WEATHER'S DEAN DEVORE SAYS YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER COVERING THEM TONIGHT.  "WE'RE LOOKING AT THE POSSIBILITY OF RECORD LOWS TONIGHT," DEVORE SAYS.  TONIGHT'S FORECAST LOW IS 31.  THE ALL-TIME RECORD LOW FOR THIS DATE IS 29 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1996.

  AUTHORITIES SAY A WOMAN WAS KILLED WHEN SHE FELL FROM A BRIDGE ONTO THE BERM OF A MONROE COUNTY INTERSTATE.  A DRIVER FOUND 46-YEAR-OLD LINDA SERRANO OF EAST STROUDSBURG NEAR THE GUARDRAIL OF I-80 WEST IN BARTONSVILLE JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT SATURDAY.  MONROE COUNTY CORONER BOB ALLEN SAID SERRANO WAS CONSCIOUS WHEN SHE WAS TAKEN TO POCONO MEDICAL CENTER.  HE SAYS SHE TOLD DOCTORS THAT SHE WAS WALKING TOWARD ROUTE 33 WHERE IT CROSSES THE INTERSTATE WHEN SHE LOST HER FOOTING AND FELL ABOUT 30 FEET, LANDING ON THE BERM OF THE INTERSTATE.  ALLEN SAYS SERRANO'S CONDITION DETERIORATED AND SHE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD SHORTLY AFTER 3 A.M. SUNDAY.

  PENNDOT SAYS I-81 NEAR HARRISBURG WILL REMAIN CLOSED TODAY FOLLOWING LAST WEEK'S TANKER FIRE THAT DAMAGED A RAMP OVER THE HIGHWAY.  "I'M GOING TO CONTINUE TO ASK FOR SOME PATIENCE FROM COMMUTERS AND THOSE WHO TRAVEL THE ROADS HERE IN PENNSYLVANIA.  THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN A HARDSHIP FOR THOSE THAT NEEDED TO TRAVEL TO WORK ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY AND IT'LL CONTINUE TO BE A HARDSHIP ON MONDAY UNTIL WE START TO SEE THINGS SLOWLY IMPROVE," SAYS PENNDOT'S MIKE KEISER.  HE HOPES I-81 WILL READY FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE ON TUESDAY.  THE INTERSTATE HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN SINCE THURSDAY WHEN A TANKER CARRYING DIESEL FUEL OVERTURNED AND BURST INTO FLAMES.

  VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN IS TRAVELING TO PHILADELPHIA TO OFFER ADVICE TO THE GRADUATES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA.  BIDEN WILL SPEAK AT THE IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL'S COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY ON THIS MORNING.  BIDEN HAS MANY CONNECTIONS TO PENN.  HIS GRANDDAUGHTER JUST FINISHED HER FRESHMAN YEAR, AND HIS SON BEAU, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF DELAWARE, IS AN ALUM.  BIDEN ALSO SPOKE AT THE GRADUATION FOR PENN'S SCHOOL OF SOCIAL POLICY AND PRACTICE THREE YEARS AGO, WHEN HIS DAUGHTER ASHLEY RECEIVED A MASTER'S DEGREE.  THE VICE PRESIDENT WILL ADDRESS ABOUT 5,000 NEW GRADS.  BIDEN AND SEVEN OTHERS WILL ALSO RECEIVE HONORARY DEGREES.

  THE FIRST OF EIGHT DEFENDANTS TO HAVE A PRELIMINARY HEARING IN A STATE CORRUPTION INVESTIGATION INTO THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE COMMISSION IS PLANNING TO CONTEST THE CHARGES.  FORMER TURNPIKE EMPLOYEE RAYMOND ZAJICEK WAS SCHEDULED FOR A MONDAY PRELIMINARY HEARING.  THE 68-YEAR-OLD ZAJICEK IS RETIRED FROM HIS $110,000-A-YEAR JOB AS FARE COLLECTION OPERATIONS MANAGER AND IS LIVING IN FLORIDA.  HE'S FACING EIGHT CHARGES, INCLUDING FOUR THEFT COUNTS.  MOST OF THE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST ZAJICEK IN A MARCH GRAND JURY REPORT DEALT WITH ALLEGEDLY PERFORMING PERSONAL ERRANDS ON STATE TIME.  BUT IT ALSO SAYS HE OCCASIONALLY MADE POLITICAL FUNDRAISING CALLS DURING THE WORK DAY OR HE REQUESTED TURNPIKE EMPLOYEES TO PERFORM POLITICAL ACTIVITIES.  THE REPORT DESCRIBED HIM AS A CLOSE ASSOCIATE OF COMMISSION CEO JOE BRIMMEIER, WHO IS ALSO FACING CHARGES.
