A WOMAN IS DEAD AFTER A SUNDAY NIGHT MURDER IN EASTON.  WE'RE BEING TOLD AN UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN WAS FOUND DEAD INSIDE A PICKUP TRUCK ON SOUTH PEACH STREET, NEAR FERRY STREET.  THERE'S NO WORD YET ON HOW THE WOMAN DIED OR IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY ARRESTS.

A PENN STATE STUDENT ARRESTED DURING RIOTING THE NIGHT ICONIC FOOTBALL COACH JOE PATERNO WAS FIRED IS SUING STATE COLLEGE POLICE, SAYING HE WAS ROUGHED UP AND WRONGLY CHARGED.  MATTHEW MASER, A MEMBER OF THE PI KAPPA PHI FRATERNITY, CLAIMS HE DISPERSED AS ORDERED BY POLICE BUT WAS GRABBED, ARRESTED AND ACCUSED OF NOT HEEDING POLICE ORDERS ON NOVEMBER 10, 2011.  CHARGES OF FAILURE TO DISPERSE AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT WERE DISMISSED AND MASER'S ARREST RECORD WAS EXPUNGED.  MASER CONTENDS THE OFFICERS WEREN'T PROPERLY TRAINED AND PICKED ON HIM BECAUSE HE WAS WEARING PI KAPPA PHI, WHICH HE CLAIMS ONE OFFICER HAD CALLED A "PROBLEM" FRATERNITY.

A PENNSYLVANIA POLICE CHIEF SAYS THE LATEST REPORTED TIP ABOUT THE WHEREABOUTS OF A MISSING PROSECUTOR CONNECTED TO FORMER PENN STATE ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH JERRY SANDUSKY'S CHILD SEX ABUSE CASE HAS TURNED OUT TO BE UNFOUNDED.  BELLEFONTE POLICE CHIEF SHAWN WEAVER SAYS THE FBI TOOK AN INMATE TO A LOCATION WHERE HE CLAIMED CENTRE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY RAY GRICAR WAS BURIED AND NOTHING WAS FOUND.   GRICAR DISAPPEARED IN 2005, SEVEN YEARS AFTER HE DECIDED AGAINST CHARGING SANDUSKY AFTER A BOY'S MOTHER COMPLAINED TO STATE COLLEGE POLICE ABOUT ABUSE.  WEAVER SAYS THE INMATE CLAIMED THAT GRICAR WAS IN DEBT TO A HELLS ANGEL'S GROUP AND THAT ONE OF ITS MEMBERS, A MAN GRICAR PROSECUTED FOR BEATING A MAN WITH A BASEBALL BAT, ALSO KILLED GRICAR.

PENNSYLVANIA'S MINIMUM WAGE HASN'T GONE HIGHER SINCE THE FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE WAS MOVED TO $7.25 FOUR YEARS AGO.  DEMOCRATIC STATE SENATOR TINA TARTAGLIONE SAYS THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE.  "WE HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE HIGH-PAYING JOBS AND THEY HAVE TO HAVE LIFE-SUSTAINING JOBS AND THAT'S WHAT THIS WILL DO," TARTAGLIONE SAYS.  SHE WANTS TO BUMP THE MINIMUM WAGE HIGHER BY 50 CENTS THIS YEAR, $1 NEXT YEAR AND $1 IN 2015 WITH COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENTS AFTER THAT.  SHE ALSO WANTS TO INCREASE THE MINIMUM WAGE FOR EMPLOYEES WHO EARN TIPS FROM $2.83 NOW TO MORE THAN $6 BY 2015.

A NEW POLL FINDS NEW JERSEY VOTERS OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORT A BALLOT MEASURE TO RAISE THE STATE'S MINIMUM WAGE.  THE POLL FINDS ABOUT TWO-THIRDS SAY THEY WILL VOTE FOR IT AND ONLY 12 PERCENT HAVE DECIDED TO VOTE NO.  A BALLOT QUESTION IN NOVEMBER WILL ASK WHETHER VOTERS THEY WANT TO AMEND THE STATE CONSTITUTION TO RAISE THE WAGE FROM $7.25 TO $8.25, AND THEN INCORPORATE AUTOMATIC COST-OF-LIVING INCREASES IN THE FUTURE.  TWO-THIRDS OF VOTERS SAY THEY DON'T AGREE WITH THE ARGUMENT THAT A WAGE INCREASE WOULD LEAD TO THE LOSS OF MANY JOBS.

AS IS STANDS NOW, MINORS CAN BUY ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES IN PENNSYLVANIA.  DEMOCRATIC SENATOR TIM SOLOBAY SAYS IT'S TIME FOR THAT TO CHANGE.  "THE BIG ISSUE HERE IS INCLUDING THESE INTO THE SAME LAW AND SAME STANDARD OF SALE THAT WE DO WITH CIGARETTES AND OTHER TOBACCO PRODUCTS," SOLOBAY SAYS.  HE SAYS THERE'S STILL TOO MANY UNKNOWNS ABOUT THE LONG-TERM USE OF E-CIGARETTES AND THE GROWING USE OF THEM IS ALARMING.  A CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL STUDY SHOWS ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE USE AMONG TEENS HAS DOUBLED IN ONE YEAR.  E-CIGARETTES ARE BATTERY POWERED DEVICES THAT PRODUCE A SMOKE-LIKE VAPOR THAT CONTAINS NICOTINE AND OTHER CHEMICALS.

SOME FOLKS ARE NOSTALGIC FOR ED RENDELL, NOW A FORMER GOVERNOR, TO STOP BEING THE FORMER MAYOR OF PHILADELPHIA.  REAL ESTATE DEVELOPER ALLAN DOMB HAS BEGUN A "DRAFT ED" INITIATIVE IN HOPES OF CONVINCING RENDELL TO RUN FOR MAYOR IN 2015.   RENDELL WAS THE CITY'S MAYOR FROM 1991 TO 2000 BEFORE SERVING TWO TERMS AS GOVERNOR.  SOME OBSERVERS SAY IT'S FAR-FETCHED TO BELIEVE THE 69-YEAR-OLD WOULD RUN AGAIN, CONSIDERING WHAT HE'S ABLE TO EARN IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR.  BUT DOMB SAYS THE CITY AND ITS FINANCIALLY FAILING SCHOOLS NEED RENDELL NOW MORE THAN EVER, SAYING, "WHO DO YOU PUT IN A BASKETBALL GAME WITH 44 SECONDS LEFT AND THE EVERYTHING ON THE LINE?  YOUR BEST PLAYER."

"I'M ECSTATIC TO SAY THE LEAST," RYNE SANDBERG SAID AFTER AGREEING TO A THREE-YEAR DEAL TO MANAGE THE PHILLIES.  SANDBERG STARTED HIS CAREER IN THE PHILLIES ORGANIZATION AND SAYS IT FEELS RIGHT TO BE BACK.  "I'VE WORN A PHILLIES UNIFORM BEFORE AND IN SOME WAYS IT'S FULL CIRCLE FOR ME," SANDBERG SAYS.  HE SIGNED A THREE-YEAR CONTRACT, TAKING HIM THROUGH 2016 WITH A CLUB OPTION FOR 2017.  THE PHILLIES HAVE GONE 18-16 UNDER SANDBERG, WHO REPLACED CHARLIE MANUEL ON AUGUST 16.
